What does the output mean?

You can watch the Decision Tree building and investigate the results in the Tree View Panel. Note that the Dimension and Base Selection tabs are used in setting up a Decision Tree.

Tree panel (top half)

Alternative views of the whole tree enabling the user to make selections of individual or multiple nodes.

  • The tabs in the Tree Panel (Tree Grid, Box Tree, Organic Tree and Gains Chart) all provide different views of the same Decision Tree.
  • The Status Bar at the bottom of these tabs gives a summary of either the current selection or the whole tree (if no selection is made).

Focus panel (bottom half)

The Focus Panel provides details relating to a single node. This is referred to as the focus node and is highlighted with a red border in the other views.

  • The Focus Panel provides a graphical view of the focus node, as well as a number of other views (Node Details, Node Rule and Next Splits).
  • The Focus Node is either the last node which the user has clicked or the node which the mouse is hovering over, if shift is also being pressed.

For more details see Decision Tree: What are the different screen areas.

Use of colour

In all the views the default colour coding used is as follows. You can alter the colours used in the main options panel (main Tool…Options menu). See Change the default options for more details.

  • Red: Relates to people in the analysis selection. The more intense the red, the higher the proportion of people in the analysis selection.
  • Blue: Relates to people not in the analysis selection. The more intense the blue, the lower the proportion of people in the analysis selection.
  • Grey: Used to show that analysis propotion in a particular node is in line with the overall data.
