Make a selection of nodes
Nodes can be selected using any of the tree views. These can then be dragged off to make a FastStats Selection.
To make a simple selection, just click on a node. To make a multiple selection containing disjoint nodes hold down shift or control while selecting to select the different nodes
Certain rules are applied in creating multiple selections:
- If you click on two adjacent nodes, the parent node is automatically selected too. This is because the purpose of selecting a node is to select the people within that node, and the combined effect of selecting all the people from two child nodes is the same as selecting the parent node.
- Similarly, whenever a non-leaf node is selected, all its children nodes are also automatically selected. Again the same logic applies, that the people selected in any parent node are contained in the children nodes.
Nodes can be removed from a multiple selection by clicking on a currently selected node. The same logic as explained above applies, in that all children of the node deselected will also be deselected. Also, if a parent node is selected and one of its children is deselected, the parent itself will also be deselected.
Using the gains chart¶
The Gains Chart can also be used to make a selection of nodes. The Gains Chart displays a point for each of the leaf nodes, arranged from left to right across the chart in order of descending gain. A group of the top nodes are selected by clicking on the chart. These will be displayed in the other views.
Note that if you make a selection of top nodes using on of the other tree views, they will automatically be displayed in the Gains Chart.
