Drag and drop
Drag and drop is used widely in FastStats and allows different items on the screen to interact with each other.
How do I drag something?¶
To drag an item in the FastStats user interface, move the mouse over the item and press and hold the left mouse button.
Whilst holding the mouse button down, move the mouse to where you want to drop the item. Notice that the mouse cursor icon changes as the item is dragged. Also, sometimes the item that you are dragging the mouse over will change to show you where the item will be placed when it is dropped.
The appearance of a dotted box underneath the pointer indicates that you can drop the item onto that location.
If you try to drag an item onto a place that is not allowed, the cursor icon changes to a 'no entry' symbol. If you drop the item here, nothing will happen.
When the cursor is positioned over the place that it should be dropped, release the mouse button and FastStats will perform the appropriate action.
How do I do an advanced drag?¶
You can use an advanced drag when there is more than one possible action that could take place when an item is dropped. To start an advanced drag, use the right mouse button. Then move the mouse over the item that you want to drop on to and release the mouse button. Now, rather than an action happening, a context menu will appear and you can select the required action.
The action shown in bold represents the default (equivalent left-drag) action.
Click on the action you want. The menu then disappears and performs the appropriate action.
Is there any way of cancelling a drag?¶
If you start to drag an item and then decide that you don't want to drop it at all, you can either drag and drop it over an area where the drop is not allowed and release the mouse button, or press the Escape key. In either case the drag action will be cancelled.
