Summary codes

This mechanism of creating Summary Codes is deprecated. It has significant limitations (e.g. it will only create a summary variable to a single level) and Apteco recommend that summary variables are created using either the Post-Load actions in FastStats Designer or as virtual variables using FastStats or the older WebLink client.

The FastStats decode mechanism allows two levels of detail to be decoded for a single variable. Each of the four definition mechanisms allows the FastStats Administrator to define the base and optionally a summary code.

Summary codes are only supported for selector variables.

This approach is often used with UK postcode data in FastStats to give a postal area to postal district zoom (or postal district to postal sector).

Summary Decodes Box

  • Enable Summary Codes switches on summary codes.
  • Size is the size of the summary code e.g. 2 for postal area.
  • Reference and Description identify the summary layer to the end user.
