Filter dimension
Apply a dimension filter¶
This function allows you to filter the dimension of a Cube with a selection. It can be useful when looking at, for example, repurchase rates.
In the following example, we will create a cube of people with the Destination variable on each axis. We will then filter the vertical axis to bookings made last year and the horizontal axis to bookings made this year.
- Open a blank cube set to the People table level
- Drag the (Bookings) Destination variable onto each axis
- Build to create a cross cube displaying the number of people who have visited the different combinations of Destinations and based on all bookings made. In this example we can see that 2276 people have only been to Namibia whilst 202 people have been to both Australia and Senegal.
To filter the vertical axis and display only Destinations visited last year:
- Drag the (Bookings) Booking Date variable onto the workspace to create a new selection at the Bookings table level.
- From the Type column, select Last Year and rename the selection "Last Year".
-
Right click on the vertical Destination dimension in the Cube and select Add Dimension Filter.
-
Drag the Last Year selection onto the drop box within the filter window and click OK.
- Repeat this process for the horizontal Destination dimension by amending the selection to a Booking Date of This Year before right clicking on the dimension, selecting Edit Dimension Filter and dragging the selection onto the drop box.
-
Click OK and rebuild the cube. Note the amended dimension labels:
-
With dimension filters applied, the resulting cube now displays, for example, that no-one has made a booking to Namibia last year and this year, whilst 4 people have booked to Australia last year and Senegal this year.
