Selector variables

If you drag a selector variable onto the dimension of a cube, the categories within that selector will be displayed. It is possible to edit the selector's categories displayed.

Top N frequently occurring categories

This feature allows just the Top N categories to be returned on a dimension by dimension basis.

  1. Open a Cube and drag the Just-a-Cluster variable onto the vertical dimension drop box
  2. Right click on the same dimension and select Edit Categories Displayed option
  3. Set the Top N Categories to 10 and click OK

Edit Categories Displayed dialog with Top N Categories set to 10

  4. Click the Build button

  5. Right click on the People column and Sort Descending

The top 10 most populated categories are displayed and all other category counts are rolled into the Unclassified cell.

Minimum category count

A further way to filter selector categories on a Cube dimension is to specify the Minimum Count for Category to only include categories from the variable that have at least the specified minimum number of records in the underlying selection.

  1. Open a Cube and drag the Postal District variable onto the vertical dimension drop box
  2. Right click to access the Edit Categories Displayed dialogue, and select Minimum Count for Category
  3. Enter the required minimum category count - e.g. 1800 - and click OK
  4. Build and Sort Descending to view the results
