Readable selections

FastStats lets you improve the readability of the selection tree in several ways.

You can optionally display brackets in the logic to aid readability. This is often useful when you have a complicated selection and wish to see more clearly how parts of a selection are combined together.

You can also choose whether to display all selector values in the selection tree. In the following example, not all the selected values on the Occupation selection are visible.

The settings for a selection can be changed by choosing the option on the selection window toolbar.

The Node Display is set to [Description] by default. This means that only a variable description is displayed in the selection e.g. Source, Postal Area etc. You can choose to display the table name as well as the description e.g. Person Source or Household Postal Area. The different formats are listed in the Node Display list-box.

Setting Description
Parameterised colour You can change the colour used to identify parameterised elements within a selection by selecting from the colour palette drop-down. For more information, see Parameterised selections.
Use brackets in logic name To bracket the selection logic, tick the Use brackets in logic names check-box.
Display all selector values in names To display the full list of selected values, tick the Display all selector values in names check-box.
Display full selection modifier information Ticking this check-box will insert a full description when sampling has been applied to the selection.
Remove default logic descriptions This check-box allows you to remove and optionally then add your own description to the various rows or clauses within your selection.
Waterfall counts Select this check-box to manually enable the display of discrete or compound waterfall counts. For more information, see Waterfall counts.

The following example shows all the values of the Occupation selection listed, with brackets used in the selection logic (Use brackets in logic name and Display all selector values in names enabled):

With Display full selection modifier information enabled, a full description is inserted when sampling has been applied:

With Remove default logic descriptions enabled, the default logic labels are removed from the selection tree:

Renaming nodes

To rename a selection node:

  1. Right click on the node to rename and choose Rename from the pop-up menu.
  2. The node will then be highlighted and can be edited.
  3. Enter the new description.

The following example shows a selection on Title of Miss or Mrs or Ms and a selection on Income with all the incomes selected above 40k.

The example below shows the above selection with each selection node renamed. The title selection has been labelled Females and the income selection has been named High Income.
