Combine selections
In addition to dragging variables onto a selection using the left mouse button - see Multiple variables, you can also use the right mouse button.
The difference with using the right mouse button is that once the item has been dragged onto the selection, a pop-up menu is presented which allows you to choose the manner in which to add the variable. The default (equivalent to a left-drag) action is presented in bold.
The example below has a selection Gender of Male with a right drag of the Newspaper variable (adding The Times) pop up window being displayed:
AND this Person has Newspapers (Default)¶
This will return a count of all people who are Male AND read The Times newspaper.
AND this Household has ANY Person with Newspapers¶
This will return a count of all people who are Male AND live in the same household as someone who reads The Times. The same person could meet both these criteria and satisfy the query.
OR this Person has Newspapers¶
This will return a count of all people who are Male OR read The Times newspaper. A person could meet both of these criteria and satisfy the query.
OR this Household has ANY Person with Newspapers¶
This will return a count of all people who are Male OR live in a household where someone reads The Times. The same person could meet both these criteria and satisfy the query.
