Chart combinations

Where a 2-dimensional Chart is created, for each type of Chart which can be displayed, there are a variety of options - “Combinations” - which govern how the Chart appears:

  • Clustered

This combination can be used with Column and Bar Charts to display data as groups of vertical or horizontal columns.

  • Stacked

This combination can be used with Column and Bar Charts to display data as vertical or horizontal columns. Each column is made up of subgroups – or ‘stacks’ and each stack indicates its relative contribution to the entire bar.

  • Stacked 100%

This combination can be used with Column and Bar Charts to display data as vertical or horizontal columns. Each column is made up of subgroups – or ‘stacks’ and the cumulative proportion of each stacked element always totals 100%.

  • None

This combination applies to Point and Line Charts. When selected, all data will be plotted within a single display.

  • Paged

This combination applies to all Chart types. When selected, users have the option to view the values of a dimension one page at a time. An additional option to view an animation of patterns across all the values of a dimension is also available.

  • Trellis

This combination applies to all Chart types and provides a layout of smaller charts in a grid with consistent scales. Each smaller chart represents an item in a category. Trellis charts can be useful for finding the structure and patterns in complex data.

When selecting the Trellis combination, users can further select from one of three possible Trellis Arrangements in order to display and view data:

  • Matrix – a grid display of the charts
  • Horizontal – the charts are set out horizontally in the display

  • Vertical – the charts are set out vertically in the display

Note

When a Treemap Chart is selected, the user can further select the Treemap layout from the following options:

  • Squarified
  • Horizontal strip
  • Vertical strip
  • Slice and dice horizontal
  • Slice and dice vertical
